The hatchet you got is called a head smasher "the reason the blade is so thin is so when you hit the enemy it goes deep into the skull, so you get a fast clean kill" I've used one in combat they are a lifesaver. It was made for soldiers to fight with, a wood hatchet has a wide tapered head so when the head goes into the wood it splits it.
