SULFUR DEFICIENCY Sulfur is one of the few elements needed in lands quantities by plants. Sulfur along with nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium completes the six micro-nutrients that plants need in sufficient quantities to remain healthy and produce high yields. Sulfur is the fourth most important nutrients the plants, fter nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. Sulfur, like many other nutrients, plays a variety of functions in plants health. It is a component of chlorophyll and this required the protein sythesis in plants which aids in the regulation of photosynthesis. Sulfur is also needed for nitrogen fixation in plants to extract nitrogen from the environment which makes legumes and other nitrogen fixing plants especially vulnerable to sulfur deficiency.
SIGNS OF A SULFUR DEFICIENCY
The first signs of a sulfur deficiency are pale, narrow than normal young leaves that can become brittle. Tiny mutated flowers, as well as buds on tops of flowering plants that will gradually die of, can also be present. Plant growth is counted in general and stems usually grow longer but not thicker.
