Ok, so I guess I should start this off by saying that I am not a scientist or a dab expert; I am a girl with a laptop and an opinion. You can choose to read my opinions or not, but please do not get offended by them. That being said, I've noticed a trend recently of people doing “reverse dabs”; it SCARES ME. If you don’t know what that is, it is basically when you put the wax directly into a cold/room temperature banger then use a torch to heat up the nail briefly while the wax is still in the banger. People argue that it helps keep your banger in better condition and that the dabs taste better but, son... I’m not buying it.

I have a couple reasons for feeling this way. The main reason being that you have no way of checking how hot the banger is. One of the dangerous things about dabbing is that when you smoke wax off a nail that is over 750 degrees, the wax releases harmful carcinogens known to cause cancer, into your body. That is why it is very important to be able to gauge how hot your nail/banger is! This reverse dab trend doesn’t have any sort of cool down to ensure you aren’t taking too hot or too cool of a hit, which to me, seems very risky. Additionally, bangers come in all different thickness’s so there is no uniform amount of time that people should be heating up their reverse dabs. A three to six second heat up on thin bangers can sometimes turn them red hot, whereas on thick bangers it can take 10 seconds to even warm up a little.

I don’t know, reverse dabbing leaves very little room for error and that makes me uncomfortable. I guess I just don’t see the issue with heating up your nail all the way, setting a timer for it to cool off, then taking the dab. I understand that a regular dab takes a little longer but I think the health risk of reverse dabs outweighs any benefits people try to argue. I have had situations where I try to take a dab and the nail is too cold so I re-heat the dab while it's in the nail and it's not a good experience. Something about the torch flame being so close to the wax heats it up weird to me and makes it taste bad.

Like I said, this article is 100% opinion based and maybe I don’t have all the facts but it seems dangerous. I am not here to judge anyone; if reverse dabbing is your thing, go for it. I just hope that you know how to do it safely.

I agree and disagree slightly. Where I'm from it's called cold dabbing and the biggest thing to remember is when you see the wax melt or start to smoke, is when you hit it. I've taken some really hot dabs and frankly they are painful. All bangers are different, meaning you really gotta know your torch and banger very well.

Yas Mac. I totally agree with everything you’re saying, but i’ve never dabbed like that so I guess i’m not too informed. Totally love this mini op-ed format, too!

Hey Dizzle! I’m glad you posted this blog. I was just going to ask you & Koala if you’ve ever heard of or tried reverse/cold dabbing. I’m on the fence about it as well. It is still new so I guess we’ll see what happens!

I'm glad you talked about this. I have had a number of people ask me about this and I honestly had never tried nor do I want to do a reverse dab. Thank you for the information.
