During this trying time of isolation and self quarantine, many people are struggling with their mental health. Social distancing may be the way to save lives from the virus, but it may not be the best for everyone's mental health.

I know how quickly depression can hit making everyday tasks even more mundane, losing interest in things you enjoy and sleeping the day away. I know everyone keeps saying the same thing, "you are not alone. we are in this together." But there is some truth to that. You aren't the only one who is feeling the full effect of self isolation.

Most dispensaries have been deemed essential so I compiled a list of the best strains for depression!

Sativa's in general are usually a go-to for lifting the mood, helping creativity and giving a boost of energy. However, sativa's can cause anxiety in some people, so tread lightly if you are prone to anxiety.

AK-47 is a great choice for combating depression as it is 80% sativa which helps stimulate alertness. It has been known to alleviate depression, stress and anxiety. This strain varies from 14 to 20% THC.

Blue Dream, another sativa hybrid on the list, is known for its uplifting affects. It contains linalool and limonene, 2 terpenes that are known to help alleviate depression symptoms. Blue Dream ranges from 17 to 24% THC.

Lemon Haze, another strain heavy in limonene, gives uplifting and happy feelings, but depending on the person it can give energy or relax the individual. This strain has 15 to 20% THC.

Some other strains to bring giggles, happiness and euphoric feelings during this dark time are Super Sweet, Seattle Cough, Sunshine, Sour Strawberry, Green Goddess, Super Lemon OG, Royal Haze, Sour Pebbles and Omega.

If you want to do your own research, look for strains high in the terpenes limonene and linalool. Linalool has sedative, antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects, which is what you want to  look for if you are feeling blue and unmotivated.

Limonene also has antidepressant properties but it also relieves stress and elevates your mood. Another awesome benefit of smoking strains with limonene is that this terpene helps enhance THC and CBD benefits of a strain.

This list is not meant to replace any anti-depressant medication you are on or cure depression. This list is meant to educate and assist in alleviating symptoms, not treating them. Remember cannabis is medicine. The more we learn, the more we can use specific strains to assist in countless ailments.
